Pre-Tour & Day 1: Arrival in Ghent |
Sites Visited |
Today we spent most of the day in Brussels prior to meeting our tour group in Ghent. I didn't think we'd have enough time to do it justice in just one day on the tour during day 2. We spent a lovely morning walking all over Brussels, visiting the Musical Instruments Museum, and Cantillon Brewery before hopping the fast train to Ghent to catch up with our new tour friends.

Today's ActivityToday was a big walking day, but we did most of it on our own before the tour started. In the morning we headed out for our comic art stroll all around central Brussels then we had a bit of a dip as we slowly toured the Musical Instruments Museum and finally a rush to and return from Cantillon. The train to Ghent was a welcome relief after we practically ran to catch it! We were glad to find that Ghent had a really compact and walkable historic core and we were most happy to sit and enjoy a great welcome dinner!
Totals for the day: 26,603 steps, 35 flights of stairs |
If I could do this day differently....
I would spend it in Ghent! When I was planning our trip, I thought there were so many things to see in Brussels that we wouldn't have enough time to do them all - and I was right! But what I didn't factor in was that by spending the morning in Brussels, we weren't leaving ourselves enough time to really enjoy everything that Ghent had to offer. I would have liked to have climbed the bell tower and visited Gravensteen which was right next to our hotel. I still want the extra day in Brussels and I included the request to add a day to the tour in my tour evaluation feedback.
